@Washington DC, for ShmooCon

Yesterday’s evening saw a bunch of ERNW guys coming to Washington DC (actually these are Rene [Graf], Matthias [Luft] and Michael “Bob the Builder” Schaefer, plus myself). We flew in to be part of ShmooCon which is not only a great conference with inspiring presentations but also an opportunity to meet a number of guys we don’t see too often over in Europe.
(On a personal note: landing in IAD always gives me a kind-of-sentimental feeling given I used to perform work for some_military_org_in_the_area in the first years I started traveling regularly to the US.)
Unfortunately Daniel caught the swine flu and can’t be with us this time, which in turn means we can’t continue our long tradition of “joint talks at ShmooCon”. This tradition started in 2008 when we gave Layer 2 Fuzzing with a nice demo, crashing a C3560 running latest code at the time. A year later we even had two presentations, one on some botnet research stuff and the second was the first public display of “the MPLS talk” which later became our most cited and controversially discussed piece of work ever. And in 2010 we showed the predecessor of the “Hacking Cisco Enterprise WLANs” stuff. So (the ShmooCon crowd’s) expectations for this year may be high and I hope I can fulfill those with tomorrow’s Attacking 3G and 4G mobile telecommunications networks talk. In any case I’ll keep you updated as for interesting presentations we see+hear, both from ShmooCon and from the NANOG meeting in Miami which we’ll all attend starting from next monday.
[btw: weather forecast for Miami is 24 degrees celsius with sunny overall conditions ;-) ]
For those interested: the streaming video of ShmooCon can be found here.
have a great weekend everybody
